Job Description

Continental - Winchester has a great career opportunity for a Compounding Chemist to be located in Winchester, VA. This is a high profile and visible role within the R&D group that requires a commitment to the successful achievement of targeted objectives. This chemist will be involved in all aspects of the material and product development process for olefin polymer films production, starting with an idea, the development of product materials and technologies, competitive information, and through to the commercialization of the product.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• The design and execution of the material and product development process for olefin films production.
• Supporting the films group in the development of new materials, products, and applications.
• Leading cross-functional project teams in the achievement of strategic objectives.
• Developing and managing project metrics that monitor project performance.
• Developing and managing project resource plans.
• The effective communication of project activities to all key stakeholders and films group members.
• Participating in new product development process meetings, as required.
• Work with customers to determine product characteristics, aesthetics, and technical requirements.
• Coordinate material testing to insure that products meet all customer requirements.
• Networks with our global partners to insure that best practices are shared between Beneke-Hornschuch Surface Group companies.
• Networks with our suppliers to insure that best materials, processes, and technologies are utilized.
• Coordinates the research of raw materials and remain current in the polymer field
• Coordinates the realization of laboratory results through to production line results and insures a seamless handover to the production group.
• Supports the production group in efforts to improve and troubleshoot materials in production.

Required Qualifications:
• BS degree, Chemistry, Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or other related technical field of study.
• 3- 5+ years polymer manufacturing experience.
• Technical / Manufacturing experience including olefin polymer formulation and processing.
• Superior organizational and project management skills.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate internal and external material and product testing.
• Successful experience in leading and being a part of teams.

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with structured quality systems (ISO and TS).
• Experience with TS 16949, specifically “Planning of Product Realization”.
• Experience with TPO and other olefin chemistries for calendered films.
• Specifying, qualifying, and procurement of raw materials
