Job Description

POSITION OBJECTIVE: Design and improve industrial hoses, assemblies and manufacturing processes per sales and marketing input (voice of the customer). Provide technical support to customers, production and the commercial organization.

• Develop new hoses and assemblies to meet customer requirements. Use appropriate tools and systems including customer specifications, Principles of Hose Design, and APQP tools.
• Work with Engineering to design new manufacturing processes as needed.
• Improve existing hose constructions to reduce costs.
• Provide technical support to customers, production and the commercial organization.
• Administer experimental hose trial specification creation and timely disposition of obsolete hoses.
• Use appropriate systems as needed including: change notices, temporary notices, specifications, queries, QSI, SPC and SAP.
• Select proper hose branding and complete associated documentation.
• Select proper packaging options.
• Create and order experimental materials.
• Generate estimated factory costs for new or revised products.
• Evaluate customer product returns to determine whether a factory defect exists and the potential root cause.
• Work with Quality Assurance to disposition held materials and products.
• Maintain a working knowledge of current industry standards.
• Work with Compounding to understand polymer options and characteristics.
• Maintain a familiarity with all Norfolk product classes.
• Understand all wire and textile reinforcement options and specifications.
• Understand all lab test options. Perform lab tests as needed.
• Maintain a working knowledge of all production processes.
• Perform other responsibilities, duties and tasks as defined by the Technology Manager.

• Bachelor of Science Degree in chemical or mechanical engineering.
• Good oral and written communication skills
• Good interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team environment.

• Product design experience.
• Rubber product manufacturing experience.
• Fluency in Microsoft Office applications.
• Six Sigma or Lean training.
