Job Description

Positon Summary:

Assist IFS R&D group in rubber and plastic materials development by accessing and extracting correlations between rubber compound formulations and material or product performance. The goal to implement an interactive interface which allows users to input desire properties and the output to be rubber formulations and/or key raw material ingredients that effect that performance. The goal is to speed development time of new rubber compounds by eliminating some lab testing via advanced data analytics.

Essential Functions:

Create a copy of a database of rubber recipes and material testing results database for further study. Create datasets that are usable by other analytical methods and tools.
Develop methods and computational techniques from the current rubber data to accurately predict compound properties. Develop models which will enable interpolation and extrapolation and prediction of results from new rubber formulas. Test the models against new compound test results and refine as needed.
Be able to inform users (material scientists) which rubber formula changes might give the resulting performance targets.
Disciplines and tools that may be applied include Data Science, Analytics, Statistics, Cluster Analysis, Text Mining, Neural Networks, Machine Learning, Chemistry, Material Science.

Additional Functions:

The Intern will receive a comprehensive introduction to the company, the products, the market and the manufacturing processes we use. He/She will receive training in basic rubber compounding technology and test procedures. A supervised project will be outlined & followed to utilize the knowledge. There will also be opportunities to become familiar with other technical activities at our site, including computational mechanics & routine rubber/plastics lab procedures.

The Intern will become familiar with the company's people at all levels, with our products, testing procedures & manufacturing processes. At the end of program, he/she will have a detailed understanding of the goals/objectives of our type of business from a technical standpoint.

He/She will acquire a basic knowledge of our raw materials, products & processes. Will also have experience in setting up, executing & analyzing data from lab scale experiments. He/She will also have the opportunity to present his/her findings to management and peers.

Qualifications:

Currently enrolled in a university with studies in Advanced Analytics, Data Science, Computer Science or related field.

Must be proficient with SQL. Proficiency in R preferred.

Good interpersonal skills.
