Manufacturing Engineer (Continental Automotive Systems, Inc., Fletcher, NC) Install, debug, and qualify new automation systems (such as PLCs, Robots, Servo drives, Torque drive systems, Vision systems, and Barcode reading), including run-off at equipment suppliers and training on new technologies. Plan and budget for required investments in automation equipment for new platforms, working closely with Central Industrial Engineering and Internal Industrial Engineering Departments for manufacturing strategy. Verify manufacturability of new product designs with Central Design Engineering. Provide technical support in troubleshooting automation equipment issues like excessive downtime, high reject rate, and equipment failure for Maintenance and Production as required. Support cross-functional team activities with 8-D resolution, internal and external quality audits, and customer visits to ensure production of quality product and customer satisfaction. Establish and maintain appropriate documentation for changes to software processes and equipment like PCRs. Assist in the development of replacement part requirements and tooling maintenance or refurbishment schedules. Must be available for equipment support for 24/7 production operation (2-5% of non-scheduled work hours). Must work extended hours (10-14 hours/day, and weekend work) during production equipment ramp-up period. Job Requirements Requires a Bachelor's degree in Mechanical, Computer, or Electronic Engineering or equivalent. Requires two (2) years: Siemens PLC Control Systems like S5 or S7 or TIA; Siemens S7-PLC programming in a machine builder environment; HMI programming; electrical troubleshooting to solve electrical problems related to automation equipment; one (1) year in Robot programming; Siemens servo-drive control systems programming; automated assembly and machining programming; ancillary Controls Systems (Vision Systems, Torque and Force control/monitoring); Project time and resource management and programming per customer requirements; problem solving tools (root cause analysis or 5 Why); with electrical and pneumatic drawings.
