Job Description

Continental - Winchester has a great career opportunity for a New Product Development Chemist to be located in Winchester, VA. This is a high profile and visible role within the R&D group that requires a commitment to the successful achievement of targeted objectives. This chemist will be involved in all aspects of the material and product development process for PVC based artificial leather films production, starting with an idea, the development of product materials and technologies, competitive information, and through to the commercialization of the product for automotive and fashion application.

Key Duties and Responsibilities:
• Design and execution of new product development projects within the artificial leather group starting in lab and transfer to production.
• Supporting the artificial leather group in the development of new products and transfer of products developed in other regions.
• Communicate with cross-functional project teams in the achievement of selected strategic objectives.
• Managing project metrics that monitor project performance.
• Managing project resource plans.
• Effective communication of project activities to all key stakeholders and artificial leather group members.
• Work with customers to determine product characteristics, aesthetics, and technical requirements.
• Perform and coordinate testing to insure that product meets all customer requirements.
• Network with global partners to insure that best practices are shared between companies.
• Qualify and fix test plan for raw materials.
• Transfer laboratory work and results through to production line and hand over seamless to the production group.


Required Qualifications:
• MS or BS degree, Chemistry, Engineering, Polymer Chemistry, or other related technical field of study.
• 5+ years polymer manufacturing experience.
• Technical / Manufacturing experience including polymer formulation and processing.
• Superior organizational and project management skills.
• Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to coordinate internal and external material and product testing.
• Successful experience in leading and being a part of teams.

Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with structured quality systems (ISO and TS).
• Experience with TS 16949, specifically “Planning of Product Realization”.
• Experience with Automotive OEMs.
• Experience with plastisols / spread coating (PVC and Urethane).
• Experience with lacquer (solvent and aqueous) coatings, including gravure application.
• Specifying , qualifying , and procurement of raw materials
